Michiko Rupnow was born in Japan. After working as a pharmacist in Tokyo she studied sculpture at Montclair State University and architecture at New Jersey Institute of Technology in New Jersey earning an MA in Sculpture. Her abstract and architectural sculptures and drawings investigate the specific space which is charged with personal, social, and political meanings.

Her sculptures have been exhibited at many galleries, museums, and outdoor sculpture gardens in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Hawaii. Michiko received a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship, a Dodge Foundation Grant for Residency Program at Vermont Studio Center, and a New Jersey Innovative Print and Paper Fellowship at Rutgers University.
