Temporary Shelters
In this human scale “Temporary Shelter” series I built the shelters and am the creator of its architectural environment. I experimented with different structural approaches with unconventional materials. I utilized collapsible, reversible and expandable construction methods for portability. I employed tension, suspension, and geodesic dome, circle and arch theories. I also used underwater floats and wheeled bases as well. For the materials, I used many objects found at a municipal dump mixed with space age products. Each of these experimental shelters illuminates one specific human condition inside each structure and brings it to our attention. The series, which started with homeless shelters, eventually grew to encompass many other types of enclosures such as a daydream shelter, an underwater human sack, etc.; compartmentalizing our life experiences from birth to death.
